Vote in favor of Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act
Washington, March 5 - I voted in favor of HR 1424 the Paul Wellstone Mental Health and Addiction Equity Act. The bill would help end discrimination against patients requiring treatment for mental illnesses. The bill passed 268-148.
Vote in favor of SBA Entreprenurial Development Programs Act
Washington, June 20 - I voted in favor of HR 2359, the SBA Entreprenurial Development Programs Act. The bill would make operational changes to the SBA's small business development centers. The bill passed 405-18.
Vote in favor of Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act
Washington, June 7 - I voted in favor of S 5, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. The bill would expand the federal funding of embryonic stem cell research by lifting the restrictions on the embryonic stem cell lines that can be used for federally-funded research – restrictions that were imposed by President Bush in 2001. The bill passed 247-176.
Vote in favor of Small Business Fairness in Contracting Act
Washington, May 10 - I voted in favor of HR 1873, the Small Business Fairness in Contracting Act. The bill would reform the process of awarding government contracts to level the playing field between small businesses and large corporations. The bill passed 409-13.
Vote in favor of Joshua Omvig Veterans Suicide Prevention Act
Washington, Mar 21 - I voted in favor of HR 327, the Joshua Omvig Veterans Suicide Prevention Act. The bill, authored by Rep. Leonard Boswell (D-Iowa), is designed to help address PTSD among veterans by (1) requiring the Veterans Administration (VA) to develop and implement a comprehensive veterans suicide prevention program; (2) requiring the VA to provide 24-hour mental health care services to veterans; and (3) requiring that a suicide prevention counselor be available at every VA facility. The bill passed 423-0.
Vote in favor of Whistleblower Protection Act
Washington, Mar 14 - I voted in favor of HR 985, the Whistleblower Protection Act. The bill will provide increased protections for whistleblowers in the federal government who come forward to report waste, fraud, and abuse of government resources, including whistleblowers employed by government contractors and whistleblowers in the TSA, FBI, and CIA who aren’t currently protected. The bill passed 331-94.
