Braley Urges House Leadership to Act Now to Extend College Tax Cut

Washington, DC – Rep. Bruce Braley (IA-01) today urged House leaders of both parties to begin working together now to pass legislation to stop the looming expiration of a popular $2,500 college tax cut. Unless Congress Acts, the American Opportunity Tax Credit – which provides a partially refundable tax credit of up to $2,500 to offset the cost of tuition for college – will expire at the end of 2012.

Bruce Braley (IA-01) joined concerned parents and their children today on the steps of the Iowa state capitol to call on the state of Iowa to pass a law requiring indoor ice rinks to install air monitoring equipment to alert patrons to the presence of unhealthy levels of dangerous fumes, like carbon monoxide.

Braley Introduces Bill to Extend $2,500 College Tax Cut

Washington, DC – After hosting a series of campus forums at colleges across eastern Iowa last week, Rep. Bruce Braley (IA-01) returned to Congress today and introduced a bill to extend a $2,500 tax credit for middle class families sending children to college. Unless Congress acts, the existing tax credit will expire at the end of 2012.
